At the silent ceremony at Guildhall on 11 November 2016 Alderman Dr Andrew Parmley became the first Glass Seller in our 352 year history to take office as the 689th Lord Mayor of London.

To mark this very special occasion the Master presented Past Master Andrew with a magnificent glass bowl engraved with the City of London skyline. The bowl, which was donated to the Company by Dartington Crystal, was produced by their craftsmen.

On his first full day of office the new Lord Mayor presided over the spectacular Lord Mayor’s Show. Crowds lined the streets for the world-famous annual procession which had around 7,000 people taking part this year. Participants included our own Liverymen accompanying our float a “carriage and glass slipper”. The theme of the float was “Glass – not just for slippers”. Roundels surrounded the float, each illustrating a different application of glass and the wider glass industries we represent.

As the float passed the Lord Mayor the Master stopped to present him with our second glass gift to commemorate his new office – a glass slipper also produced by Dartington.
