SUMMARY:Members and Friends - Private Guided Visit to the Clockmakers Museum
DESCRIPTION:The Clockmakers’ Museum is the oldest in the world\, with a collection specifically of clocks\, watches and sundials. \nFounded by the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers in 1813/14\, the museum collection comprises around 1400 objects\, the majority of which are on display\, including almost all of its notable pieces. Within the collection are more than 600 watches\, 90 clocks\, and 30 marine chronometers\, along with sundials\, tools\, and other pieces relating to the Clockmakers’ Company and the art of clock and watchmaking\, as well as hand engraving. The narrative of the Museum’s display focuses particularly on the development of clock and watchmaking in London between c.1600 and 1850. It includes pieces by many of the great London makers\, including John Fromanteel\, Edward East\, Daniel Quare and Thomas Tompion. Part of the display also looks at contemporary British clock and watchmaking and includes several pieces by the eminent watchmaker Dr George Daniels. \nIn 2015 the Clockmakers’ Museum moved its collection to its current location at the Science Museum in South Kensington\, where it occupies a gallery on the second floor. \nEntry to the Science Museum is free of charge; however\, you will need to book your admission in advance.  This can be done via the Museum’s online portal\, which can be found here \n  \nhttps://tickets.sciencemuseum.org.uk/. \nTuesday 8th September 2026 \nOur private tour will begin promptly at 16.30. Please meet in the café on the 2nd floor at 16.15. The tour will end at 17.30\, allowing you a short time to browse the Museum shop before making your way across the road for dinner at Ognisko. \nOgnisko is located directly opposite the Science Museum at 55 Prince’s Gate\, London SW7 2PN.  On leaving the Museum\, exit via the main entrance on Exhibition Road\, turn left and walk south towards Prince Consort Road.  Cross Exhibition Road at the pedestrian crossing and continue onto Prince’s Gate.  Ognisko is approximately a 5-minute walk from the Museum entrance. \nPlease aim to arrive by 18.00 for dinner. \nThe cost of the private guided tour and 3-course dinner is £75.00 per person. \nA cash bar will be available. \nPlaces are extremely limited\, so please book as soon as possible to avoid any disappointment. \n  \n
