Members and Friends – Private Guided Visit to the Clockmakers Museum
Clockmakers Museum, 2nd Floor, The Science Museum, Exhibition Road, LondonThe Clockmakers' Museum is the oldest in the world, with a collection specifically of clocks, watches and sundials. Founded by the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers in 1813/14, the museum collection comprises around 1400 objects, the majority of which are on display, including almost all of its notable pieces. Within the collection are more than 600 watches, 90 clocks, and 30 marine chronometers, along with sundials, tools, and other pieces relating to the Clockmakers' Company and the art of clock and watchmaking, as well as hand engraving. The narrative of the Museum's display focuses particularly on the development of clock and watchmaking in London between c.1600 and 1850. It includes pieces by many of the great London makers, including John Fromanteel, Edward East, Daniel Quare and Thomas Tompion. Part of the display also looks at contemporary British clock and watchmaking and includes several pieces by the eminent watchmaker Dr George Daniels. In 2015 the Clockmakers' Museum moved its collection to its current location at the Science Museum in South Kensington, where it occupies a gallery on the second floor. Entry to the Science Museum is free of charge; however, you will need to book your admission in advance. This can be done via the Museum’s online portal, which can be found here https://tickets.sciencemuseum.org.uk/. Tuesday 8th September 2026 Our private tour will begin promptly at 16.30. September Court & Livery Dinner – Salters Hall
Salters Hall 4 London Wall Place, LondonSalters Hall In the long chronicle of the City of London, Salters’ Hall stands as a testament to endurance, dignity, and the steadfast service of the Worshipful Company of Salters, one of the ancient Great Twelve. From its earliest foundations in the 15th century, the Hall has been the spiritual and ceremonial heart of a Company whose governance of the salt trade shaped the wellbeing of the realm. Across the centuries, successive halls have risen and fallen—by fire, by war, and by the changing fortunes of the City. The medieval hall in Bread Street gave way to the London Stone Hall of the 17th century, itself consumed in the Great Fire of 1666. A noble 19th‑century hall followed, serving generations until the Blitz of 1941 left it in ruins. Yet the Company’s resolve never faltered. In 1976, a new chapter opened with the inauguration of the present Hall on Fore Street, designed by Sir Basil Spence. Its bold, modernist form—now Grade II listed—embodies the Company’s commitment to tradition and progress in equal measure. A further renewal in 2016 ensured that Salters’ Hall remains a place of hospitality, learning, and civic fellowship. Today, Salters’ Hall continues to uphold the Company’s historic purpose, welcoming guests, nurturing education through the Salters’ Institute, and preserving the dignity of centuries‑old ceremony within a home that reflects both heritage and modern aspiration.
