The Glass Sellers’ Company makes a number of Awards. These are given at the discretion of the Trustees.

Science and Technology
The Glass Sellers’ Science & Technology Award
The prize is awarded periodically for a significant advance in the science or technology of glass. Developments must have taken place during the five preceding years and must either be commercially deployed or evidence of commercial viability must be provided. The 2019 Science & Technology Prize was awarded to the Engineering Division of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution for their pioneering work on the design and increased structural integrity of glass fibre hulls of life boats.
Glass Art
The Glass Sellers’ Art & Craft Award
This is a biennial award for an art piece made essentially of glass. It is open to graduate and professional studio glass artists’ resident in the UK. The winner is chosen from pre-selected finalists at a judging ceremony held in conjunction with the British Glass Biennale.
The Glass Sellers’ Art & Craft Student Award
This is a biennial award for an art piece made essentially of glass, open only to glass art students presently at college or within three years of graduating. The winner is chosen from pre-selected finalists at a judging ceremony held in conjunction with the British Glass Biennale.
The Glass Sellers’ Trophy
The Company has been an enthusiastic supporter of the Guild of Glass Engravers since its formation including a grant towards the cost of the first Exhibition held at the Victoria and Albert Museum. The Glass Sellers’ Trophy is specifically for members of the Guild.
The trophy is awarded to the artist adjudged the ‘best first time exhibitor’ at the Guild of Glass Engravers Exhibition. Whilst it carries no cash prize, is highly valued as an encouragement to artists new to the art of glass engraving.
Other awards
The Glass Sellers’ Beethoven Piano Prize
The prize of £1000 and a glass trophy is given to the winner of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama’s prestigious Beethoven Piano competition. This continues are long association with the GSMD. Until 2014 a trophy was awarded to the runner-up in the Gold Medal competition.
The Glass Sellers’ Tankard
The Company takes special interest in our ‘adopted’ submarine HMS Artful. We have been very proud to be associated with HMS Spartan and HMS Sceptre until they were decommissioned.
The tankard is presented annually, at the new Master’s Installation Dinner in December, to the crew member adjudged to ‘have contributed most, outside his professional duties, to the well-being and morale of the crew’.
