Glass Sellers prominent at ICG 2025
Liverymen Alastair Cormack, Dave Fordham, Stuart Hakes and John Parker were prominent figures among over 550 attendees at the prestigious 27th International Congress on Glass (ICG 2025) in Kolkata this week.
A triennial conference considered one of the most important on the global glass events calendar, the theme ‘Glass: A Smart and Indispensable Material for Sustainable Society’ had a particular focus on emerging technologies which can catalyse transformations in the use of glass products in various fields.
Dave Fordham was representing Glass Futures, who had three presentations on the programme to provide an overview of the Global Centre of Excellence and initial plans for pilot-scale trials focusing around low-carbon energy sources. Dave also chaired the ‘Recycling of glass’ session.
Stuart Hakes of FIC chaired the ‘Sustainable glass manufacturing and processing’ session and presented ‘Electric forehearths for Energy Reduction and Decarbonisation’ during the 3rd N.L. Varshneya Memorial Lecture.
Alastair Cormack presented a paper ‘On the environment of Mg cations in some magnesium aluminosilicate glasses from Molecular Dynamics Simulations’ and John Parker presented ‘Electronic energy levels in silicate glasses (the nature of bonding)’.
All four Liverymen were keen to inform attendees visiting from 20 different countries of their membership of the Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers and its relevance to the international glass community.
