In recent days, members of the Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers of London were prominent figures during milestone events in St Helens that will have major influence in shaping a sustainable future for the international glass manufacturing sector.
Proudly sporting the Glass Sellers coat of arms, Past Master Richard Katz and Liveryman Dave Fordham joined Glass Futures colleagues and local dignitaries in welcoming Sir Keir Starmer to the Global Centre of Excellence. Richard and Dave were part of a delegation that led the Prime Minister on a tour of the 165,000 sq. ft transformational R&D centre ahead of an experimental furnace firing on 25 th June that will pave the way for sustainable glassmaking across the world.

Richard and Dave returned to St Helens the following week to join Prime Warden Matthew Demmon, Liveryman Stuart Hakes and an international audience of sustainability pioneers and glass melting experts at the Furnace Solutions Conference organised by the Society of Glass Technology. Richard opened the event alongside Councillor Anthony Burns before Matthew, Stuart and Dave chaired conference sessions that addressed challenges and
opportunities for decarbonising the glass sector. Attendees also followed in the footsteps of the Prime Minister with a tour of the Glass Futures facility.
With further high profile Glass Sellers events to follow this year including collaborations with British Glass, the Glass & Glazing Federation and Glass Futures, having members of the Company at the forefront of prominent industry gatherings is clearly demonstrative of the relevance and importance of the Glass Sellers within the glass community.
